Knowing on which side is the gas door.

It's on the left. I think.

Often it's what side of the cluster the gas gauge is on.
My truck has the gauge on the left. The fuel door is on the left.

Ill bet its on the left. In older cars like the 'Chero and my Capri, both without the arrow, the filler was on the same side as the gauge.

In that case, it's not even

It's on the right, like most euro cars

Figures, BMW doesn't leave an... indicator
![]() 03/08/2015 at 15:05 |

yeah I guess most BMW drivers don't care with indicators

Should be on the right side of the car. Most German vehicles do.

I've always seen that's it's been left for everything thats American. If it's "American" aka badge engineered euro car, or just euro or Asian it's been on the right.

yes it is, and I know, it's my car, just found it funny that this little life hack trick was not 100% accurate

Same thing happened to me like a week ago when I bought an e36. I guessed it was on the right side

on my focus st, it's on the right, but the current focus is not really american

It's what side the pump nozzle is on. Looking at this, I'd say it's on the right.

Ahh. Must be a 'Murican thing then.

The only car me or my immediate family has owned that had an arrow, was my '01 escape.

Yes, this. And BMW expects you to have read the owner's manual (or taken their driving course if you bought new). Too lazy for these activities? Tough schnitzel.

What arrow? There is no arrow here and no indication of which side the fuel filler door is on.

Arrow or the side of the pump the hose is on as shown in the symbol. So the right in your case

Never realized that. Mine doesn't show it either.

The hose thing isn't standard. Back in highschool, I worked at a full service gas station. I once had a guy drive up on the wrong side of the pump. When I told him he'd done that, he started arguing with me about which side the fuel door was on, him going from the pump on the gauge, me from looking at the side of his truck. I eventually gave up and went and pumped someone else's gas. He got out, swore a couple times, and then hopped back in his truck and left.

My last car, Mexican built ZX5 was right side

*like most German cars
Italian and French cars are much less consistent with this rule even though there is logic in it: placing the filler the opposite to the driver door, so you can park close to the filler without hampering egress and ingress.
Same reason why most Japanese and Korean cars have it on the left, those are RHD home markets....

every german car ive ever owned had it on the right side. i think its a german thing.
